Role: Brand Consultant and Designer
As part of a freelance collaboration, I created the brand strategy and identity for Wagala Compound, a small business and resource for holistic Chinese medicine. I worked with founder and owner Lucy Wagala to lay the foundation of her brand for the launch of her online store. Lucy’s background in pharmacy gave her a unique perspective on how holistic practices interact with modern medicine, which helped us distinguish Wagala Compound’s approach. The brand strategy vocalized the opportunities and strengths of Wagala Compound in the world of wellness, particularly in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Once the strategy was defined, we developed a visual identity that made reference to Lucy’s family roots in Cameroon, using a mark inspired by the country’s national flower, the Red Stinkwood. I translated the brand across packaging applications, including some tea that quickly became one of my favorite morning brews.
